Refurbished pad computers

Also called "slates"

Refurbished pad computers (like the Apple Brand iPad (tm)) and slates may be significantly cheaper than brand new systems, with the same warranty and usability. In fact, many computers are refurbished because they are returned out of "buyer's remorse" instead of an actual defect. Other ones are returned due to operator error, or computer illiteracy, so the system has minimal or no usage but is inspected for factory standards. There are even major electronics retailers who sell batches of refurbished systems at a discount. When you buy a refurbished pad, you should ensure that it comes from a reputable source, and there is a clear return policy.

The refurbished pad market is expected to expand significantly in the years 2011 and 2012 as more advanced models of the Apple iPad and other pad (also called slate) competitors come on to the horizon. Handheld devices frequently experience technical difficulties and are returned at the source, where they are sent off for repair and either re-sold on the secondary market or traded for used units that have other troubles. For example, an Apple iPad that loses battery life may be traded (plus battery cost) for one that is refurbished. In some cases the refurbished unit is nearly new, while in other circumstances it may have hundreds of hours of useful life on it before a defect sends it back for repairs.
